Lava Lamps Are Still Cool

Bruna and I have finished rewatching Breaking Bad for the second time — what an amazing show.

During a scene where Jesse’s bedroom was shown, with a lava lamp in the background, I mentioned to Bruna that I always thought lava lamps were cool.

Two days later, a Mathmos Telstar lava lamp arrived at our door (thanks, Bruna!). It’s a beautiful piece of design — still made by the original manufacturer — and it’s mesmerizing to watch the wax slowly move up and down.

I have written a small Home Assistant automation, combined with a smart plug, to prevent the lamp from overheating and manage the lamp’s runtime.
